The Lurie Cup is an annual indoor soccer tournament held at the Corning YMCA, bringing together nearly 100 players from across a 1.5-hour regional radius to support Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and the Corning YMCA. What began as a small, student-led fundraiser has grown into a community tradition that combines athletics, philanthropy, and local engagement.
The tournament was founded by Rohan Amin following his life-saving Rex Shunt surgery at Lurie Children’s Hospital under the care of Dr. Superina. At the time, the procedure was still relatively rare, and Rohan was among the first 100 patients to receive it. He continues to return annually for follow-up care. The Lurie Cup exists as a way to give back to the hospital that made his life possible and to raise awareness for pediatric care and research.
Funds raised through this campaign directly support both Lurie Children’s Hospital and the Corning YMCA. The YMCA generously provides the facility space at no cost, allowing the tournament to take place, and a portion of the funds raised is directed back to the YMCA to support its community programs and ensure the sustainability of the event.
Since its launch, the Lurie Cup has raised over $20,000, grown from 40 players in 2022 to more than 90 players today, and become a meaningful gathering for players, families, and spectators. Thank you for supporting a fundraiser that reflects the power of community partnership and helps create lasting impact for children and families.
