Hello, my name is Jamie Popplewell, and I am the mother of Peyton Popplewell. Peyton is 15 years old and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth. He requires around the clock medical care as he does not have the ability to care for himself in any way. Due to the ongoing medical issues he is facing, we attend many appointments each month. These appointments range from care for developmental delays, gastrointestinal issues, seizures amongst other medical issues. Our current vehicle can no longer accommodate Peyton’s needs and is not a reliable or safe mode of transportation for him. On top of the AC/Heat going out and transmission starting to have issues, his wheelchair lift stopped working for us. At this time, I am having to fully lift him (while in the wheelchair) to get in the van. While doable, it is very strenuous and I fear I will not be able to do this for too long without injury.
The state of TN allows Peyton to have a registered nurse in our home 9 hours a day from Monday-Friday. During these hours, I work as a CNA to be able to provide for my family. However, with the current circumstances, I am unable to accommodate the extra hours that would be needed for the purchase of a new, or reliable, vehicle that is handicap accessible as I already have to take time off for his appointments.
I have dedicated my life to ensure Peyton is loved, happy, and comfortable and would would be very grateful for any help I can get.
