Help us save Canada’s desert!
Donation protected
We love Canada’s desert! It’s an extraordinary place, located in the southernmost corner of British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. This desert environment is home to many rare plants and animals, including some found nowhere else in the Canada. It is also one of the country’s most endangered ecosystems. Very little of the habitat remains, but you can still experience its beauty and wildlife by visiting the Osoyoos Desert Centre. The 67-acre nature education facility gives you an opportunity to learn about the habitat by taking a tour along a 1.5 km boardwalk and exploring hands-on exhibits in its interpretive building.
For more than two decades volunteers, supporters and staff at the Desert Centre have successfully restored and conserved the site’s endangered habitat and welcomed thousands of visitors from around the world. But now we need your help. Unfortunately the Desert Centre’s interpretive building is, quite literally, falling apart. This past winter the building suffered severe weather-related damage and, despite repairs, is not likely to survive another winter. A new building is urgently needed if the Desert Centre is to continue operating.
The Osoyoos Desert Society, the non-profit that operates the Desert Centre, is seeking donations to raise $120,000 to purchase a new modular building. We hope you can contribute – donations of any amount are gratefully accepted. Your donation will help fund a new interpretive building and, most importantly, will make it possible for us to continue educating visitors and conserving Canada’s amazing desert habitat.
