A Kidney Donor and Medical Expenses
Donation protected
My name is Katrice Stephens, and I was referred to this program, by a friend, who encouraged me to reach out and tell my story. I am the single mother of four wonderful daughters: Kyla, Laila, Kaila and Devyn and also a full-time College student working on my Criminal Justice Degree with 2yrs remaining. I am determined to finish what I started. My life obstacle will not be the end of the road for me. Here is my story... After giving birth to Devyn, I suffered Kidney complications due to severe Preeclampsia and it attacked my kidneys. Unfortunately, both my kidneys are working at 29%. I am in need of a Kidney Transplant. Before giving birth to Devyn, I relocated to Austin, Tx from New Orleans, La to raise my girls with my then boyfriend and High School Sweetheart. He and I have sinced parted ways; however I remain in the Austin area to allow Devyn to maintain a bond and a relationship with her father, and also for family stability; needless to say things have changed, thus this plea for help.
I was raised with great authority and discipline. As a mother I, have ensured my girls are raised well, with the same morals, values and ethics as I. I joined the United States Army in the Transportation field in 2001. After, serving my Country for 3yrs, I decided to return back home to New Orleans to focus on gaining a College education at Southern University of New Orleans.
I have been undergoing Dialysis for 3yrs. Within the last year, I was put on the Transplant list to receive a kidney. I believe it will happen by God's grace in the next 5yrs. Unfortunately, due to the required 3 times a week, for 4hrs a day Dialysis visits, companies are reluctant to hire me, so it has been very difficult to acquire a part-time job, and a full-time job seems to be totally out of the question.
I have submitted many applications, and have had a few interviews, but have been unsuccessful to no avail, due to my medical history. I now find myself a single mother, who's head of household, yet operating at a deficit. Not to mention the medical bills have become overwhelming and has lead me to seek finanicial assistance from outside sources. I have been fighting for Disability since I started Dialysis but, I keep getting denied, its an on going battle. Its very stressful to not be able to provide for my family as I always have done. I feel paralyzed. I am trying to seek help so that in 2016, I won't have the added stress of medical bills.
I come to you as humbly as I know how, asking for your assistance. I am seeking financial donations or sponsorship to help with medical expenses, and any part-time job opportunities that are willing to work with my schedule, as well as Kidney Donor Recipients to help donate a kidney if God leads you to do so. Also, to help keep me afloat as I fight this Kidney ailment, and care for my daughters. I shared my story, and testimony so that you could perhaps get a glimpse of what I have been dealing with the last few years. It was really difficult for me to write this letter because I have always been strong and independent, but I have been severely humbled due to the severity of my health condition. I am asking you, if you would find it in your heart to be a sponsor. It wouldn't go unappreciated, and I would be forever in debt to you. I really appreciate you taking the time to read this letter, and the consideration you have given myself and my daughters.
Thanking you in Advance,
Katrice Stephens
