Who I am and How It All Began
Hello everyone, my name is Jonas, I’m a student from Germany.
A few weeks ago, I got in touch with Abdoulie, a young man from The Gambia, who reached out to me in a moment of real need.
Since GoFundMe isn’t available in his country, I’m organizing this campaign on his behalf to help his family through an incredibly difficult time.
I never thought that a simple Instagram message could change my life...
A few weeks ago, Abdoulie, a young man from The Gambia, reached out to me in deep distress.
He lives with his younger siblings and grandmother — no parents, no regular income, and often not enough food.
At first, I was skeptical. But after we spoke on a video call and I saw their situation with my own eyes, I couldn’t just look away.
The situation has become increasingly urgent.
In recent days, Abdoulie told me that his family has often gone without proper meals — some days, they simply don’t have enough to eat.
That’s why I’m launching this campaign now: to make sure they can get food immediately, while we work on a sustainable solution for their future.
Even though I’m a student myself, I decided to send €30 — not a small amount for me.
Just hours later, Abdoulie sent me photos: he had bought food for his family.
That moment made me realize how even what feels like a lot for one person here can mean survival for a whole family there.
As a student working part-time to stay afloat, I’m doing my best to support Abdoulie’s family with what I have.
But my time and resources are limited, and I’ve realized that I can’t do this alone.
That’s why I decided to start this campaign — to invite others to help create a lasting change together.
I’m organizing this campaign from Europe on his behalf to make sure every donation safely reaches him and his family.
To reduce transfer fees and ensure security, I’ll send the collected money to Abdoulie in larger installments through Western Union.
Each transfer will be documented, and I’ll share the official Western Union receipts in the campaign updates so everyone can see that the funds arrive safely.
Since then, we’ve stayed in close contact, and I’ve learned that this isn’t just about short-term help — it’s about giving a family the chance to live with dignity and independence.
It truly breaks my heart to know that there are still people in this world who don’t have enough to eat every day.
I rarely dream, but since I learned about Abdoulie’s situation — and saw it myself during our video calls — I often wake up from bad dreams about it.
I want to do everything I can to help them live a life where these young people can grow and develop with the same opportunities we have here in Europe.
This shall be my first step working towards that vision and I hope that you'll walk that path with me too!
In Abdoulie’s Own Words:
“Hello, my name is Abdoulie Sarjo, and I’m reaching out with a humble heart.
Life hasn’t been easy lately. I lost part of my parents too soon, and ever since then, I’ve been doing my best to hold my family together.
I now live with my elderly grandmother and my younger siblings, and I’ve taken on the role of helping care for them, despite being young myself.
Each day is a challenge — finding food, getting my siblings to school, or making sure my grandmother has what she needs. Sometimes, I go without so they can have a little more.
My dream is to give them a better life — one filled with hope, safety, and opportunity.”
His words touched me deeply and I really want to help Abdoulie and his family!
Our Shared Goal: One Year of Safety and a Sustainable Future
We've been speaking for some time now and in the moments we both had the time and mind to think together about how we can actually achieve an improvement in the life of Abdoulie and his family, we put up the following two points:
1. One Year of Safety – Living Without Fear
Right now, the situation is critical.
The family has been struggling with food shortages for several days and urgently needs support to cover their daily meals.
To give them stability and peace of mind for a full year, we want to provide:
- Food & drinking water
- Cooking gas, clothing & hygiene
- School fees & medical care
- A small emergency buffer
Based on our calculations, the family of seven needs about €50 per day (~7,15€ per person per day)
which adds up to around €18 250 per year to cover the basics of life.
2. Building Self-Sufficiency – A Future They Can Shape
At the same time, we want to lay the foundation for a sustainable livelihood:
- Field rent (1 year ≈ €3 600)
- Irrigation system – water pump, tank, hoses (≈ €800)
- Solar setup – power for pumping and lighting (≈ €800)
- Tools & seeds (≈ €500)
- Small livestock – chickens & feed (≈ €300)
With this, the family can start producing their own food and even sell small surpluses — a real step toward independence.
The total project goal is around €26,000.
This includes:
€18,250 to cover one full year of basic living expenses — food, water, hygiene, school fees, and health care for the family of seven.
€6,000 to set up their small-scale farming project — including land rent, tools, seeds, a solar system, and small livestock.
€1,750 for GoFundMe fees and a small buffer for exchange rate changes or emergencies.
Our first milestone is €15,000, which will cover the family’s most urgent needs for food, water, and school fees.
Anything beyond that will go directly into building their path toward self-sufficiency.
Milestone 1 → €15 000
Our first milestone of €15 000 will secure the family’s most urgent needs for food, water, and school fees.
Every euro beyond that goes directly into building the self-sufficiency project.
Our long-term target is €26 000 — to provide one full year of safety and to establish a lasting path toward independence.
How You Can Help
Every contribution — €5, €20, or €100 — makes a difference.
Sharing helps just as much: please forward or post the link.
I’ll keep posting photos, videos, and updates so everyone can see the progress.
Together, we can ensure that Abdoulie and his family don’t just survive — they can build their own future.
Transparency & Updates
All major expenses will be documented with receipts, photos, and short reports.
You’ll see exactly how your donation turns into food, water, and sustainable progress on the ground.
Every donation is a piece of hope.
Thank you for standing with us. ❤️
