Logan Knowles NASTAR

Donation protected

From three years ago when he was just learning how to ski by himself, and now to be racing is unbelievable.

Logan was born in June of 2000 with a spastic hemiplegics cerebral palsy.   He started Early Intervention at 9 months with Occupational, Physical and speech therapy. At 18 months of age his Doctors suggested a motorized wheelchair for him.  I told them no, that I would carry him and or he could learn to use a walker ; and if he never could walk, then we could reconsider the wheelchair, No way was I going to put my son in a ride on toy that he would never want to walk out of. By the time he was three years old, he had his first K walker, and in the end of fourth grade he walked away from it.

Logan knew that his family went skiing every weekend and he so wanted to go, we told him “When you learn to walk”.  When he was six years old we discovered the wonderful Adaptive Ski Program at Greek Peak, New York and he started going every other Sunday. However, after 2 years of coming down the slopes in-between the coaches’ legs, I told him he was getting to big and he would have to learn how to ski next season or he was done.  The following ski season, Logan mastered the Magic Carpet the first day.

Next he started bugging his favorite coach Ed, about joining the adaptive NASTAR team, Ed kept putting him off saying you’re not ready. Well in 2013, Ed finally gave Logan the paperwork to sign up for NASTAR. He was thrilled. . Two years later he has managed to achieve the top racing score for his age, disability group and for the NASTAR Nationals in Aspen Colorado.

Ever since joining the NASTAR team, Logan talks insistently about being a downhill skier. He wants to make the US Paralympics team someday. “My life is in the mountains” he says.

When he was born I could have never imagined or dreamed this for my son. We take each day as it comes and aim high hoping for the best. He puts his heart and soul into everything he does and eve won the Debbie Philips award at Greek Peak for demonstrating those attributes of never give up and always give your best.

Logan has been given this wonderful opportunity to attend the NASTAR National Championships. The only way to get there is to get invited. Now with less than two weeks notification we find ourselves in the predicaments of trying to find the money to make his dreams come true.

With your help, maybe his dream will come true.
