Several families in the Northrop Elementary community are facing an urgent housing crisis. Recent ICE activity in our neighborhood has forced some families to shelter in place and disrupted their ability to work, with some out of work since November. As a result, paying bills has become a serious and immediate challenge, putting housing stability at risk for children in our school community.
Northrop has an exceptionally strong and supportive community of families who consistently step up for one another. In recent weeks, families have already been organizing to check on neighbors, patrol and accompany one another, respond to rent requests, and offer to serve as buddy families. This fundraiser builds on those collective efforts to ensure no family is left behind. This is a mutual aid effort led by parents within the Northrop community, in coordination with school staff.
Funds raised will be used for housing needs (rent, mortgage, utilities) for March and April if we raise enough to cover both months. Families receiving support will be identified by school staff as having need, and funds will be distributed equally among those families. For safety and privacy, families receiving support will remain anonymous.
Northrop is a community that shows up. When families are under threat, we respond with care, solidarity, and action. Your contribution will directly help keep children and families in our school community safe, housed, and supported. Thank you for standing with our neighbors during this critical moment.
