Nancy Thompson was a mother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She was my only sister and my best friend. Nancy was an extraordinary woman, she was beautiful, funny, generous, loyal, loving and astonishingly brave. Nancy left us far too soon. Many were unaware that for 25 years, Nancy was continuously & silently battling Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) - a terrible & devastating illness that attacks the bile ducts and gradually leads to liver failure. PSC is a long-term progressive disease of the liver & gallbladder. Despite being recognized by the medical community for over 100 years, there is still no cure for PSC. Scientists & researchers continue to study the disease to understand its origins & development.
We lost Nancy last October to PSC, but her spirit refuses to surrender. It is in her honor that we continue her battle, both for Nancy & all those who still suffer from PSC.
Newport was Nancy’s happy place and for decades she celebrated special times there with family and friends. On June 4, we are participating in the Newport 10 Miler under the name "Newport for Nancy". With this race group & fundraiser, we are seeking to raise money that will accelerate the search for a cure for PSC. We have partnered with the American Liver Foundation, and every dollar raised from this event will be funneled directly toward crucial PSC research.
With this GoFundMe, we are asking for your help. Each contribution raised here supports the essential research to understand, treat, and ultimately cure PSC. This GoFundMe campaign was created in partnership with the American Liver Foundation, all funds raised here can be collected into a single check, ensuring the entire sum is directed towards the ALF efforts focusing specifically on PSC curative research.
Please click “Donate Now” on this page and follow the instructions. Every contribution helps us stand together & fight PSC, like Nancy did. Thank you for your time, generosity, and belief in a cure.
