Eric V. Dickson Memorial Project
Donation protected
We are the Eric V. Dickson Memorial Project and were formed on July 4, 2017. It is our intent to raise $75,000 in order to commission a bronze statue of Eric V. Dickson.
Eric is Woodland Park’s hometown hero, he is Woodland Park and Teller County’s only death due to the Vietnam War. He was killed in action on May 31, 1968 while engaged in a fierce battle with the North Viet Cong.
Eric was a 1967 Woodland Park High School graduate and his death in Vietnam was incredibly hard on all residents of the area. He was very well known and respected by everyone, young and old.
A beautiful memorial fountain was erected in his honor in downtown Woodland Park where everyone could see it. The Marine Corp sent an Honor Guard up when that fountain was dedicated.
In 1978 vandals struck and destroyed the fountain. Soon after, what was left fell into disrepair and was finally torn down and replaced by a public toilet.
We are actively seeking donors to help build a lasting bronze memorial for this war hero.
