My Husband Dan, passed away
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Sherri, and I recently lost my husband of 32 years. Dan was not only my husband, but my best friend. I’m lost without him. We met when I was
16 and he was 18, so we’d been together for the majority of our lives. Dan was
the father to two daughters. Alexis, 33, and Lizzy, 24. They were his world. He worshipped his daughters and was there for them whenever they needed him. They are also having a very hard time with losing their dad.
Dan had type 1 diabetes from the time he was 19. He suffered many complications from this difficult disease. He’d suffered two strokes, he lost both his legs, below the knees. He was on hemodialysis for six years until he received a transplant! It lasted for 14 years. He then had a 10 hour back surgery to correct some severe painful issues. Then his heart started having issues and he had two stents placed. He was scheduled to have cataract surgery next month so he could
see again. He’d already been blind once before, and had laser surgery by an amazing eye doctor at Kellog eye center. He also had three surgeries to correct and make a new fistula to have the hemodialysis he now had to start again because the transplant failed. They hadn’t even healed when Dan became very sick. They found mouth cancer while he was being treated for the kidney disease. Dan had become mentally and physically drained. He told me he just couldn’t do this anymore. He was tired of being sick. I had to be strong and give him what he wanted and that was the right to stop treatment of all kind. That was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my life-let my best friend go to Heaven. Writing all of this has helped me to see everything Dan had to go thru and why he was so ready to be with the Lord. So, I wanted to share an updated story of my husband so you could
get a better feel of all he went thru. I was there with him at every hospital stay, every surgery, and every illness. My whole life was devoted to my husband from the time he became sick, until he passed. We’d love to have an intimate cremation/memorial upnorth at the Ausable River this summer-as Dan was an avid fisherman. I’ve added some pictures so you can see!
Now I need to work and I have no car. We lost it to a drunk driver so I have upped my gfm and hope everyone can understand why I did this.
thank you for all of the donations, prayers, shares, and kind words!!!
