Montaia Supports Cuban Yoga Communities
. . .
Can you imagine growing up in a place where practicing yoga in groups was banned?!
Up until the early 2000’s, it was actually illegal in Cuba to gather together for most spiritual or group meditation practices.
Centers like Yoga Proyecto Comunitario and the Cuban Yoga Association have had to fight for their right to exist and practice yoga together.
And yet – they stay determined!
In most cities in Cuba, it would cost $40 USD per month to rent a clean and quiet space big enough for the entire group to participate... but in the United States, an average yoga class costs between $10-20.
So here's where you come in!
For less than you would pay for 1 week of yoga classes in the US:
You could pay the rent for an entire yoga community in Cuba to rent a studio for an entire month.
A $20 yoga mat might seem like a minimal expense.
But the average Cuban citizen makes $20 a month.
The Montaia Team’s goal is:
To raise a enough money to pay the rent for 3 Cuban community yoga studios for one year,
and buy 10 yoga mats for each center.
Our fundraising goal is: $2,400 USD
