Proper Burial for Richard Mattice
Donation protected
My father passed away on Sunday, Sept.23, and as amazing as he was as a man, he was terrible with money management. His insurance policies for his passing are of no real amount and ideally our family would like him to have a proper funeral and burial. He was a pround American , patriotic and served in the US Naval Reserve, he worked at General Electric, SUNY Oswego and was an avid antique collector and history buff. He worked well into his later years buying and selling antiques to help pay the bills. He raised four of us kids, and put food on our plates and a safe roof over our heads along with my Mom. He taught us to respect history and that our lives have value, and as kids we joined him on archeological digs, he scuba dove, loved boating, fishing, hunting, collected old toys, decoys, along with many artifacts of history. He was a member of a small local museum, and got me started in my passion, art at five years old. He worked at SUNY Oswego and got his bachelors and masters degree late in life, always learning and exploring life and history. Dad was a prankster and fun lover, I remember him putting fake insects in Mom's cake back when we were kids, and using a newfangled cassette recorder to fake us kids out that a person was hiding inside of a barrel we had. When he and his siblings got together it was a three ring circus of impromptu impersonations, improv comedy and goofy escapades. He encouraged us to succeed and do well in life.
Time has not been kind to our family, my brother has a lifelong mental disability, along with my Mom currently, and my Dad's love for us all is beyond the problems that beset the family. Him and my mother took on helping to raise my sisters son as if he was their own son as they aged, a daunting task. His love for all of us went above and beyond. We had a very special upbringing due to my parents love and hard work over all the years.
I am a self employed artist, and my income varies with each year so it's tough on my end also. If you can help out finacially it would mean the world to us. The man deserves a proper send off. The amount is loosely based on the small death benefits he has coming and hopefully get him a proper burial, obituary, plot and maybe a small simple grave stone.
Any funding over the amount posted would go to a legit veterans support group, or animal shelter with a zero kill policy. Thanks for any help.
