MK's Service Dog (CRPS & GP)
Donation protected
My name is Mary Kate. I am 20 years old and trying to raise money for a service dog.
As a freshman in high school I was diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome in my left ankle. it quickly spread throughout my entire body leaving burning ulcers all over my skin, full body dystonic tremors, muscle spasms, color and temperature changes in my limbs and swelling from the lightest touch. I have been through chronic pain programs, tried every medication, and spinal nerve blocks along with physical therapy 3x/week since I can remeber. now I use medical marijuana to help the pain and allodynia (pain response with an unpainful stimuli).
At the end of 2016 I was admitted into the hospital for malnutrtion and unable to keep food or water down. I lost 30ibs in less than a month and started declinging very quickly. I was diagnosed with Gastroparesis. since then I have been hospitalized every month for electrolyte rebalanced and vitamin/nutrition support. I had a surgical J-tube placed, but my body conitnues to reject them and i need another procedure every 2-4 weeks in the hospital to replace the feeding tubes.
I continued to attend college at Benedictine University to become a registered dietician and made the Dean's list both years. With CRPS and GP it is very hard for me to be in the school atmosphere, but my future is so important to me! I believe in a full recovery and my experiences will help the children I hope to work with in the future.
A service dog would allow me to attened Benedictine University with left side support and help during muscle spasms/tremors with the ability to grab medications and any accessories I need to get out safely. It would also provide support while i am in the hospital for procedures and help when i am weak!
Having a service dog will provide me freedom and love that i need to make a full recovery!
thank you for your time, support, and prayers
