Help Michele help the Twins

UPDATE:

Many thanks to all of you who have contributed to this campaign! Mere words cannot express the gratitude I feel.

The twins are making remarkable progress and will be starting school on 22 August. They are currently receiving services to help them communicate verbally through our Regional Center, and are attending a weekly class through the First Five Monument Center.

Through the loving contributions of more than 50 people, we are currently at 84% of our initial goal. Please help us meet, or exceed, this goal. Your contribution will help provide continued support. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Please enjoy the video!

We love you,

Michele, Quinn and Xander     XOXOXO

Dear Beloved Community,

Our friend Michele Korpos, who some of you know through our personal celebrations in life, is the great-great aunt (even at her young age) of 2.5-year-old twins.  Quite suddenly and unexpectedly, Michele with her open heart accepted the legal guardianship of these two beautiful toddlers, Xander and Quinn.

The twins' young parents are current and past members of the U.S. Army, and both suffer from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), and both have had a very difficult time parenting. The babies were neglected, had improper nutrition, and are diagnosed as being developmentally delayed, with Xander falling within the Autism Spectrum. While the parents have shown the babies affection, their lack of parenting skills, (coupled with PTSD), have impacted the twins' natural growth into healthy, responsive, fully embodied little beings. The parents asked Michele to step in to give both twins the attention and stability they so desperately need.

We want to help Michele in this new journey.  Michele is an extraordinarily generous, gifted person and friend.  She has spent most of her adult years supporting the well-being of nature’s most magnificent animals as a biologist.  She is also a dear friend and constant support to her beloved community.  We have benefitted tremendously from her care and creativity.

We LOVE YOU Michele!

Nearly 3 years ago, while working on site as a wildlife biologist, Michele walked into an unmarked and improperly backfilled borehole.  It was a traumatic accident that crushed part of her right foot, did permanent damage to her lower back, and resulted in a rare and very painful neurological condition called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). Michele is slowly regaining her strength; however, she is still on disability and managing her recovery through doctor’s appointments, massage therapy and other alternative methods.

Regardless of her own physical and financial challenges and limitations, Michele embraced this new role of caretaker and guardian with no hesitation whatsoever.  We know this will be a big challenge - Physically, Financially and Emotionally. We are truly concerned for Michele’s ability to continue this ongoing level of support and stay healthy herself.  So, we are asking for your love and generous financial contributions to help support her and the children over the next 3-6 months, and probably longer.

Initial, out of pocket expenses already total $7500.  This includes the cost of flying the babies from Texas to California, 2 car seats, 2 cribs, 2 mattresses, bedding, twin stroller, indoor gates, diapers, booster chairs, shoes, potty chairs, specialty foods for healing, books, toys, house cleaning needs, and laundry. Moving forward, the twins will need a secure outdoor play area, school supplies, etc. Your generous support will help Michele in a variety of ways and help provide the safe, secure and stabilizing home that these two rambunctious twins need in order to thrive and grow during this time of transitional healing. The babies have been with Michele for only a few weeks and their progress is remarkable: their complexions look better; their hair is clean, soft and shiny; Xander now runs to us with bright, joyful eyes and is beginning to respond to his name when called; and Quinn is no longer traumatized at bedtime.

This request is targeting current expenses and three months of support with the recognition that 6-12 months of support is more realistic and necessary.  It is a huge effort!  The children are beautiful and challenging in so many different ways! We want to help Michele be emotionally, physically and financially able to provide the nurturing, healthy home needed for Quinn and Xander to grow up into their whole, happy selves.

Introducing Xander and Quinn - beautiful young lights full of potential!

Thank you!
