Meekah - Cruciate Ligament Surgery
Donation protected
Hi our names are Emma and Alec and we are the paw-rents of a beautiful 5 years old English Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Meekah. Meekah’s beautiful, gentle nature captivates everyone who meets her and she is dearly loved by everyone in our family.
The last thing we would ever want to do is resort to asking for help financially and we have had to push aside all of our pride in doing so. Much to our distress, Meekah requires emergency surgery after completely tearing her cruciate ligament. Meekah is currently on a waiting list for surgery and in the meantime requires daily medication for the pain as she is unable to bear any weight on her leg.
The treatment Meekah requires involves anaesthetic sedation to have an x-ray of her leg, at the vets she will be having the surgery, followed by Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy (TPLO) surgery where they will “change the angle and relationship of the femur and the tibia to reduce the amount that the tibia shifts forward during a stride”. This will be achieved by “making a curved cut in her tibia, rotating the top of the tibia, and using a bone plate to allow the tibia to heal”. This realignment will help provide stability to her knee, help reduce future joint inflammation and replicate a more normal configuration of the knee joint. Meekah’s surgery alone has an estimated cost of $5,000 - $7,000 without the inclusion of the cost for pre-surgery medication, sedation and x-rays as well as any post operation treatment. After the surgery Meekah will have a lengthy recovery period of up to 4-6 months before her leg is fully healed.
We have had the year from hell with our darling girls and vet treatments as in October 2021 we had our hearts broken as we said goodbye to our energetic and darling 2-year-old Rottweiler, Bundy. 14 weeks later on Christmas Eve we had the unthinkable happen as we took our girl to the vets for what we thought was a UTI due to her urinating blood. After a few tests we were given the heartbreaking news that she had been bitten by a Red Belly Black snake. Meekah received treatment and 24 hours of emergency care to save her life which cost us $5,000.
We have gone above and beyond with our baby girl to ensure she has the best of everything along with all our love and attention. She is a perfectly healthy and happy member of our family who loves chasing toys, being at the beach and spending time with her humans. We don’t want to lose our precious girl.
If you can spare any amount at all to assist us in providing Meekah with the surgery she needs, we would be eternally grateful.
Thank you!
