A message from Athana.

To everyone involved in the GoFundMe for Athana Mentzelopoulos

My name is Athana Mentzelopoulos and I am the former President and CEO of Alberta Health Services. After I was terminated without cause from my position in January, I brought forward a civil suit for wrongful termination. My statement of claim described several issues that had troubled me as President and CEO.

I am writing to everyone involved in organizing the GoFundMe to support my legal costs, and to everyone who might be thinking of donating to the effort. First of all, thank you so much for organizing this and for your consideration. From the first time you contacted me about this initiative, I have felt overwhelmed by your support and thoughtfulness.

It is possible that there will be unspent or reimbursed funds at the end of the legal processes. As we discussed, any remaining funds will be donated to charity. I would propose to donate the funds to the Alberta Cancer Foundation -- such a donation would clearly acknowledge that the total amount is not from me, but that it reflects the intentions of those who donated to the GoFundMe. I hope everyone will be supportive of this approach.
