My name is Laura, my 31 year old niece is living in Yucatan Mexico and fell in Sept, hit her head and severely injured her back. She was not able to walk or sit up. She thought she would get better and did not ask for help at the time. She progressively got worse and was completely bedridden until her landlord found her and called her family for help. While her parents were getting emergency passports, she had severe colon issues with infection and had to be taken to the hospital where she was in sepsis, multiple organ failure , had emergency surgery and was put on life support for a few days . She's still in ICU recovering with heart and lung failure. She needs to be medevac to the United States ASAP. The hospital she is currently in wants her moved tonight 11/08/2021 and they won't treat her anymore. In her surgery they removed part of her colon and it is still not attached due to her condition. She is not strong enough to go thru that surgery at this point. US embassy cannot help. They have not evaluated her spine issues so we have no idea what will become of that. She still cannot sit up or walk. Mexico hospital you have to pay cash for your care. To get her back to Chicago just for the medevac is 33,000. She has Mexico hospital bills, medevac and whatever care she will need when she gets back to the states.
