Hi everyone, my name is Morgan. I am currently on maternity leave. I gave birth in January to Matilda, who was 4 weeks premature and has always since birth struggled with many things. After a long battle and multiple visits to the hospital and speaking to numerous doctors, it was finally discovered that Matilda suffered a bleed on the brain and has got significant white matter damage, which is very likely to affect her motor skills.

Doctors have said that this is a very rare and unique case and they are still searching for a reason as to why or how this has happened, but so far have had no luck. Unfortunately due to this, the doctors cannot predict the extent of her damage and how severe her condition may be. Alongside the brain injury, Matilda has been diagnosed with Dystonia, which is a lifelong neurological movement disorder which can cause a lot of pain and discomfort for her. Matilda is on a variety of medications, multiple times a day, which without it she suffers severely.

Early intervention and intensive therapy is key for Matilda to give her the best chance to develop her motor skills, so she is undergoing a lot of therapy and treatment both via the NHS and privately. I pay privately because the NHS services are very stretched and they cannot accommodate the frequent and intense sessions that Matilda needs, which of course is very expensive.
