Mary Taylor’s Journey of Healing

Donation protected

Let me begin by saying that Rob and Mary
Taylor did not ask me to start this campaign. And I know it is not an easy time to ask for a
donation, but if you could consider donating
something to help offset their enormous
medical and travel bills it would be so very
appreciated.

Even with insurance, the co-pays and coinsurance deductible that has to be satisfied with
each  year of treatment and the 20% left of
each bill after their deductible is met is staggering. Also their travel expenses of gas,
food and lodging have only added to one
large financial burden. Months of travel have run up quite a bill aside from the medical bills.

For those of you that don’t know me, my
name is Laura Turner and I am a colleague of Rob’s at the College of Charleston. When we are finally allowed to hug each other again I
would like to invite all of you to join me in a
fundraiser concert. This hopefully will be a
celebration of Mary being cancer free!

I know you all are making difficult decisions
about your finances at this time, but
whatever you can spare would be such a gift
to Rob, Mary and Kiri.

ABOUT MARY AND HER JOURNEY
Mary Taylor has been a treasure in the arts community of the SC Lowcountry since 1998. A classical violinist, an Irish fiddler and an educator, Mary has brought performance and educational experiences to Charleston and the entire region for over twenty years.

An avid exerciser and careful with her diet, it came as a huge shock when Mary’s OB/GYN found a vaginal growth in 2015. After a biopsy, Mary was initially told she likely had stage 4 GI tract cancer, and that the tumor was a result of metastasis. Thankfully, after testing, the official diagnosis was not stage 4 GI tract cancer, but was instead a rare stage 2 vaginal tumor. Because of the rarity of this type of cancer, Mary was treated at MD Anderson over the summer of 2015, and by November she was pronounced cancer free.

Four and a half years later, Mary’s cancer has returned with a tumor in almost the exact same spot. Because this is a recurrent tumor, the treatment being advised is a radical surgery called a pelvic exenteration at the renowned Mayo Clinic. The recovery time is six months. Mary’s surgery was scheduled for April 22, but after a week at the Mayo clinic, Rob and Mary have returned home to wait for the Mayo Clinic to deem it safe for the surgery in the midst of the COVID pandemic. Meanwhile, Mary is receiving care from her primary GYN Oncologist, Apla Nick, who treated her at MD Anderson. Dr. Nick now practices in Nashville Tennessee.

Feel free to share this with artists and arts supporters everywhere.
