Marathon run: Denis Burkitt Unit at St. James Hosp

Donation protected

Hey everyone!! So I have decided to give a marathon a run for it’s money....literally!!

I am raising money for the Denis Burkitt Unit in St James Hospital. The St James Haematology Unit is very close to my family and has treated my cousin Megan since she was 18. The Haematology Unit took over care from Crumlin Hospital, who have looked after Megan since she was born. Megan was born with a rare blood disorder called Immune thrombocytopenic purpur, also know as Chronic ITP. It affects the platelet levels in the blood, bringing it down to extremely low levels which causes numerous problems such as bleeding in the brain and blood clots. Megan has already endured two strokes, amongst other symptoms, in her lifetime and has received life saving treatment for this illness in both hospitals.

As all trials of treatment and medication have failed, Megan will be having a bone marrow transplant to give her any sort of future in life. The Denis Burkitt Unit will be looking after Megan and treating her in this lifesaving treatment. I would like to give something back to them in order to provide treatment for all patients, so that everyone has a chance in life.

Any money this raises will be donated to the Denis Burkitt Unit to help provide essential treatment for bone marrow transplant patients. If you could donate any amount to help it would be greatly appreciated!! Let’s hit the €1,000 goal before I run on the 19th December!!
