Mandy's trip to Mayo Clinic
Donation protected
Back in March my sister woke up and she couldn't move. Just the day before, she was out seeing patients, and the next day, she was completely dependent for most needs. She was admitted to the hospital and numerous tests were done and the diagnosis was Sjogrens. Sjogrens doesn't usually affect the nervous system, but in her case, it seems to. She is tired easily and struggles with day to day chores. She is only able to walk short distances at this time and requires a wheel chair for any store visits or fun excursions.
Recently her doctors, Primary Care Physician, Rheumatologist, and Neurologist all suggested she make an appointment at the Mayo Clinic. The doctors are unsure why her symptoms are getting worse, despite all medications she is on. The earliest opening that they have is in November, but it is in Arizona. This is quite a long drive (26 hours) for someone who lives in Indiana but the Minnesota location has a waiting list of 3 months and Florida location has no appointment until next year.
Her husband isn't able to take her since he has to work and has no vacation time. Going from two incomes down to one has been devastating financially for them (a family of five). I will be able to take off work to take her but the drive is too far when she already tires very easily.
We would need funds for airfare for two to Phoenix,AZ and money for accomodations while we stay for all the testing. Not sure how many days we would be staying. Ideally we would want the funds raised by November 1st.
Since her symptoms are getting worse, the doctors would like her to be seen as soon as possible to see if there are other possible disease processes going on.
She also needs an electric wheelchair if more funds are available than what we need for travel to Mayo Clinic
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
