Our dear friend Madalyn received devastating news right before Thanksgiving when she was diagnosed with bone cancer. It is called Chondroblastic Osteosarcoma and it is in her rib cage. Madalyn is a 24-year old whose career as a Social Worker has allowed her to dedicate her life to helping others. In both her profession and personal life, she goes above and beyond to ensure everyone is cared for. Madalyn radiates positivity and is loved deeply.
Madalyn’s treatment will consist of 3 separate parts and has started this December.
1.) Chemotherapy with the goal to shrink the size of the tumor
2.) Surgery to remove the tumor and damaged ribs
3.) Continued chemotherapy to treat any undetected/small particles of cancer that may not have been removed during surgery
We are told the treatment from start to finish will be about 7-9 months. Thankfully, Madalyn has an amazing team of doctors and a support system inclusive of friends, family, and colleagues who will be with her every step of the way.
We have set up this GoFundMe as a means to ease the upcoming financial burden. Any donations we receive will help to cover medical expenses, current and future fertility preservation, lost wages, transportation and lodging, self-care, and any other costs associated with Madalyn’s fight against cancer.
A little more about Madalyn:
She is a beautiful young woman who recently graduated with her Master’s in Social Work. After finishing school she started working as a Home Visitor to educate and support local low income and/or homeless families with young children. This past September she began her dream job as an elementary school Social Worker, which she has had to take a long leave of absence from. Before starting her professional career, she worked in multiple settings specifically for children who have special needs. She also interned at KiDS NEED MoRE, a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of children, families and young adults coping with cancer and life-threatening illnesses. Madalyn has devoted her life to helping others and has brought a smile to countless faces. We are hoping to return a little bit of that kindness back to her :)
Any and all donations are greatly appreciated as they directly go towards supporting Madalyn. If you unable to give during this time, messages of hope and encouragement are also welcomed. Thank you!
