Lupo Family Medical Bills Fund Round2
Donation protected
This is the second round of fundraising for the Lupo family.
As most of you know by now, I was in a significant snowboard crash right before the new year. I shattered my patella while out on the Shuksan arm at Baker, and had to get emergency reconstruction surgery. Just about six weeks into the recovery process, due to a car accident in my own driveway, I re-broke my surgically repaired knee and our family car was also totaled in the process. I have now had two major surgeries back to back, and the severity of the second break has limited my chances for a full recovery and threatened my ability to ever snowboard again. I'm too stubborn to let that happen, but that means taking a longer period of time before fully returning to work and prolonging the road to financial recovery.
We are super thankful that we have health and auto insurance, but even with those in place, we are still facing an astronomical burden from these injuries. Out of pocket we are paying just over $15k for the two combined surgeries, about $2k for X-Ray imaging and hardware (crutches/multiple knee braces, etc), another $6-7k for the difference in vehicle repair cost after the insurance adjustment, and an estimated $5k or so in physical therapy which unfortunately, is not covered by insurance. Overall, we are on the hook for about $30,000-ish by the time we get through all this.
So far, our first round of funding raised just about $11k which is significant chunk and is absolutely AMAZING!! However, we still have a long way to go and can very much use additional help to get there. Bailey and I are proud folks that don't really feel comfortable with the idea of charity, and we would like to focus this round of funding on hosting various snowboard related drawings and selling off some of our shred gear. We will use this gofundme account to "sell" the drawing entries through donations. We prefer to offer more in return for your dollars, but we also know that many of our friends and family don't snowboard, and want to help us out anyway. Although the charity is uncomfortable for us, this is a situation where we need to suck it up and let our peers help if they want to help. All donations are accepted and so much appreciated.
Sincerely,
Johnny and Bailey Lupo
