Louie and his battle with Crohn’s

Donation protected
There is no doubt that our brother Louie is a fighter. He has been struggling with Crohn's disease for over 13 years.

On September 10th, Louie was admitted to the emergency room to seek help as to why he wasn’t able to eat in months and was suffering from excruciating abdominal pain. This ER visit led to 5 weeks in the ICU and was hospitalized a total of 9 weeks after many major surgeries and complications.

  • Within the first week, the medical team found an obstruction in his bowel, which had to be surgically removed. This procedure was successful, but unfortunately, living with Crohn’s disease, his immune system was weakened. This led to further complications, the first of which was an infection, sepsis, in the area where surgery was performed on his bowel.

Things took a drastic turn from this point on.

Louie was taken back into surgery again, but while recovering, his vitals were not stable. He was losing a lot of oxygen at a rapid pace. This led to him being placed on a ventilator. Complications continued. He developed a blood clot in his leg, which led to him having another procedure to help prevent any clots going to his lungs or heart.

He then developed another infection. The doctors decided at this point that he had to have a colostomy and ileostomy.

After about ten days of being on the ventilator, the medical staff needed to perform a tracheostomy. His lungs started to build with fluid, which needed to be monitored and drained. His kidney function started decreasing, and starting dialysis was being discussed.

These past few weeks we have seen some positive improvements. Before leaving the hospital, doctors decided to take the trach tube out and is now able to eat and drink on his own. God is great! He was discharged November 17th to a rehabilitation center for physical therapy and wound care.

Our brother has been out of work and will continue to be while he is healing and resting his body for the next few months or more.  His goal is to be able to get home by Christmas and spend time with his nieces, nephew and family. We are overjoyed with the love, prayers, and support that continue to motivate Louie.

I ask with humility and a grateful heart for your support. Louie's road to recovery has just begun. We would like for him to focus on getting better and not have to worry about finances. He has significant medical bills, medications, and future appointments with specialists that insurance won't cover. Any amount you are willing to donate will go a long way.
