Lou Castro Recovery Fund

As many of you know, one of our Brother's Lou Castro was knocked down by a sudden stroke. This condition has caused paralysis and speech issues.

When Lou initially had the stroke a few days ago, he was working his part-time fire job in Prince George. Prince George is being AMAZING and trying their very best to file Lou’s hospital bills under workman’s comp. This is proving to be a tad more difficult than expected though, and we are very unsure if this will actually come to fruition. Additionally, both Savannah and Owen have just recently had extensive medical testing done for some significant, but non-life-threatening health issues. These bills arrived in the mail on Monday, the same day Lou had his stroke. The kids’ bills amount to $2223.63.

The Castro’s made a huge change last year as Hannah decided to leave her position as a public school teacher and begin teaching at a private Christian school. In order to pay for Savannah’s and Owen’s tuition, make up the significant difference in Hannah’s pay cut, and pay for increased insurance costs (due from moving from really great county insurance to private), Lou has taken on an additional part-time job, and picks up lots of overtime, and works for many special events at places who need a fire chief present for zoning purposes. 100% of the money earned at these extra jobs goes to paying for the above mentioned costs. Due to the stroke, he is now unable to work for quite a while, much less work his extra jobs. The kids’ tuition is quite a significant amount each month, but that it is not possible to pay tuition WITHOUT Lou’s extra jobs.

Living on a firefighter’s and teacher’s income is tight enough for the Castros on a typical basis. Lou will be out of work for quite a while. He, thankfully, has some PTO and vacation that he can use, but when he has to switch over to receiving short-term disability pay---and that will only cover 60% of his salary.

I am asking those of you who can, to consider donating money to the Castro family. 100% of money donated will go to help cover the kids’ tuition for this school year, medical bills, and all unexpected bills that may pop-up during this challenging time.

Laying all of this information out there makes Hannah and Lou a tad uncomfortable, but they know that they cannot keep going without some additional financial help.

Please consider donating to the Castro family—any and every amount helps. I will be handling donations and ensuring they all go to the Castros.
