Lost home and cats due to house fire

Hi I am Adriana Garcia. My mother and I lived in 2229 starling avenue for 12 years, On Thursday may 30th my mother and I were having lunch and it was interrupted by an explosion coming from the garage from our house. Before we knew it our small apartment was covered in smoke and we had to evacuate quickly. My elderly mother and I are well known for feeding and rescuing strays cats. We often donate to cat rescue groups and do everything we can to help our community by taking care of the strays. Our small apartment was filled with joy, warmth and love all coming from the 10 cats we rescued throughout the years. All that abruptly ended on Thursday while we were having lunch as the smoke filled our home my mother and I struggled with burning eyes and horrible coughs to evacuate our home. Before we knew it we were out in the street with nothing but our pijamas. We managed to rescue 5 cats and the other five unfortunately passed. We took all 10 cats to animal hospital in Yonker where the remaining five cats were treated and at the same time my mother was rushed to the ER due to a heart attack. But thankfully she managed to pull through and I have my mother with me still. I am asking my community for help. It is just my 70 year old mother and I dealing with this horrible situation on our own. We are left homeless, sad, scared and with our hearts shattered. We were the mother-daughter duo who would feed the strays and take care of the cats who needed it the most. Now we are asking for a bit of kindness to be returned to us the same kindness we gave our five rescued babies.
