Long Live the Beard
Donation protected
After almost eight years of pokes, prods, scans, annoying procedures, and numerous hospital stays, Jeff finally had enough and on September 7, 2021 died peacefully at home. He was in no great hurry and spent his last days listening to, if not actually watching, all eight Harry Potter movies. He was obviously Gryffindor as evidenced by his unending bravery.
Jeff was born in San Diego to George Schurer Jr (Julie Schurer) and Pamela Klotz Taylor (William Taylor). George was with him at the end and Pam was waiting for him on the other side. Many of his grandparents were also waiting for him and he was looking forward to his Gram Klotz making him a banana cream pie.
Left behind to tell all kinds of great stories about him is his wife and best friend Shelley Schurer. Although they were married almost 29 years, next month would have been 36 years since their first high school kiss.
Jeff and Shelley were the proud, yet exhausted, parents of seven amazing children with the recent addition of two children-in-law: Sam and Heather Schurer, Anna Mei Schurer, Ricardo Schurer, Abi and Nick Scibetta, Angelynne Schurer, Glenn Schurer, and Daisy Schurer. Watching his kids in all kinds of activities was Jeff’s favorite past time.
He also leaves behind his sister Tracy Frey, sister and brother in law Tammy and Tim Dohn, brother William Taylor, sister and brother in law Gretchen and David Bernadini, brother Tim Taylor, sister and brother in law Brooke and Merle Martin and oh so many nieces and nephews, as well as a great niece and nephew that he loved very much.
A longtime member of the Carpenter’s Union, every member of his family could take you on a tour of all the buildings he worked on throughout the Pittsburgh area. He had the privilege of working with an amazing group of people including those at Burchick that stood by him all these years supporting his family through thick and thin.
Please consider making a donation to help cover funeral and medical costs. Any remaining monies will go to a scholarship fund in Jeff's name.
