Hi, my name is Tamara and I'm currently a GP Registrar in Sydney, Australia. I suffer from Bipolar Affective Disorder amongst other illnesses. Due to this I need to take a leave without pay from my current training rotation, possibly for the rest of term. I also may be going into hospital for a 3 week admission to stabilise my health and treatment.

I am moving to rural NSW next February as the costs of living in Sydney have me really struggling and I am hugely in debt (to the tune of 25 grand, and that's not HECS/uni), but I am worried about surviving until then. I currently live alone due to my illnesses and next month the landlord is putting my rent up even further to $740 a week and the current rental shortage makes it very difficult to move quickly. My specialist appointments are very expensive and I've had to skip some as too broke, which is making me worse.

I am looking for flexible work currently, but this may be delayed if I need to go in for a psychiatric admission and I have no savings, only debt, so no way to pay bills and rent.

If you have any spare dollars at all it would mean the world if you could contribute, as embarrassed as I am to ask. I've tried be very open about my mental health my whole career so far and it has really put a target on my back due to assumptions about capability and stigma. However, I have never had a clinical incident, I know when I am safe and not safe to work (currently I am not) and I really try do the best for my patients.
