Life-saving Surgery for Dirttrude

Please help us save our sweet girl Dirttrude. She was found as an unweaned pup abandoned on the side of the road in the desert at the beginning of February. Knowing she wouldn’t survive so young and alone, we rescued her. She’s now a spunky 8 month old puppy. About 6 weeks ago we noticed her face was completely swollen on one side. We immediately got her an appointment to be seen by a local vet and were told she had an abscess of unknown origin. We were sent home with antibiotics and a round of anti-inflammatories. After she completed the meds, the swelling had not fully gone away. We scheduled another appointment and were encouraged by the vet to drain the pocket by putting in a drainage tube instead of doing a very costly and invasive surgery. After considering our options, we agreed to the drainage tube. However, after we got home from the procedure, we saw in the procedure notes that the doctor had notated the cause as a possible compromised salivary gland and that draining wouldn’t be more than a temporary solution. This information had not been relayed when we agreed to insert the tube, leaving us now out of the funds we would have had available to put towards the more intensive surgery. In addition, we have now put Dirt through the unnecessary discomfort of a procedure that will not heal her in the long run. It’s been a long emotionally and financially draining ordeal, and we are scared and discouraged. The pathology shows it is indeed a salivary gland issue which will not resolve on its own, will become necrotic and eventually septic. Dirt needs a complicated life saving surgery done by a veterinary specialist. The cost of this surgery is way out of our financial means, as we have already spent over $1,800. We have completely exhausted our financial resources getting her to this point. We are humbly reaching out now to ask for help to cover the cost of this surgery and medication/aftercare for our sweet and spicy puppy.
