Lieutenant Steve Kelley "Strong"
We are attempting to raise funds for our Brother Firefighter, Lieutenant Steve Kelley, of
The City of Rochester Fire Department, to help cover past and future medical expenses,
as well as costs of materials we have purchased for improvements to his home.
Those of us who know Steve are not surprised with how he has selflessly served the citizens of, and visitors to our great city for more than 25 years as a Firefighter/Officer.
Several years ago while operating at the scene of an advanced fire in a residential structure with people trapped, Steve was injured in a fall when a fire damaged floor failed. While he was able to recover to a degree, the injuries have persisted, at times becoming debilitating.
To Steve’s credit he would continually work through the pain, so that he could continue to serve others.
A few months ago Steve was stricken with a severe case of pancreatitis. Within hours he was admitted to the ICU, placed into a medically induced coma, due to multiple organ failure. The odds of him surviving appeared slim.
Due to the efforts of an elite medical team at Rochester General Hospital, and his will to survive, Steve overcame those odds and is with us today!
His recovery has been remarkable, but he still has a long way to go. Unfortunately, he lost most of both feet to the infection, and the uncertainty of further loss lingers.
As RFD firefighters, we were taught many lessons by those who came before us, most of which emphasized taking care of our own. We continue to give our best efforts, while passing on these traditions to our younger generations of firefighters, but we have arrived at a point where we need your help to continue to support our Brother, colleague, and friend.
Thank you for your consideration and support!
