Hello, my name is Valerie and my friend Sarah’s family is being threatened with an "eviction"—by a family member with more money to keep the court case going—from the home they were given in perpetuity by their grandmother, precisely because this was what she was afraid would happen.... which would leave Sharron, Edith, and Chyla homeless.
There is not a lot we can do in this world anymore that makes much sense.. but it would seem to me, if we can keep families in their homes, we may have a shot at something good.
And this family was PROMISED this home, both legally and in spirit. Let' s do the right thing.
this from sarah
"Before my grandmother, Elise Liddell, passed away—she created the Liddell Living Trust. In this trust, she guaranteed a future for my father, Martin Liddell, his brother, Khalil Liddell, and their descendants —which are my sister Edith and I (my uncle doesn’t have any children). Elsie even clarified in the will that descendants were biological and adopted so that my sister and I would still be considered should my father pass away. After asking my father to be the trustee of the will and trust, my grandmother appointed my uncle Khalil as trustee because my father denied accepting the responsibility, as he lived almost an hour away from my grandmother and trusted my uncle was able to serve in the role effectively because he lived across the street from my grandmother. However, in 2016, my father and mother moved out of their home and moved in with my grandmother to take care of her full time because she fell ill with dementia.
My grandmother passed in 2019, making it my uncle Khalil’s responsibility to complete all the expectations of the trust, including monetary payouts to himself and my father. However, this did not happen. My father began working with a lawyer because my uncle was abusing his power as trustee, including his responsibilities to the maintenance and upkeep of my grandmother's home. Unfortunately, my father passed before the issue with my uncle Khalil was resolved, leaving behind the situation for my sister and myself.
My father passed, Feb of 2021 and less than a month after he passed, my uncle Khalil tries to serve my mother and sister an eviction notice—saying that they could not live in my grandmother’s house. My mom and sister are not tenants. According to the trust, once my father passed, all possessions that belonged to my father were now going to my sister and myself. This means, my sister and I are now part owners to my grandmother's home, everything in her home, and any money left in the trust.
My sister and I were able to get a lawyer to help with our case. However, we are in the next phase of this case and do not have the money to continue. We are seeking help from anyone who can support us, as the well-being of my mother, sister. and niece are directly affected by this situation if we cannot come to some resolution. Our grandmother's mother made sure that my sister and I would be okay when she and my father passed, and if we cannot move forward with keeping the lawyer on this case to help fight this injustice, we will lose our home.
