Lady Edith's Surprise IMHA Diagnosis
Donation protected
Less than a week ago, Lady Edith was her usual, happy-go-lucky self. Just a girl in the world. Leading the way on walks and jumping around like slinky on a staircase. Then this past Sunday, Mama Beth knew something was wrong...
Edith seemed weak... anxious... she wasn't eating... and then she started collapsing while she walked across the room. A far cry from her usual spry self... Beth took her to the vet right away, where she tested for anemia.
After a couple days of a blood thickener, anti-inflammatory, and pain meds, Mama Beth knew Edith needed more help. Edith has now been staying at the hospital for the past 3 nights, and has been diagnosed with Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia. IMHA is an autoimmune disease in dogs where the body attacks its own red blood cells. Edith's red blood cell count has dipped very low, and she'll be receiving a blood transfusion this week.
Needless to say, this is all coming with a hefty price tag. Edith has been an active, healthy dog until this surprise turn. At this point, Beth and the doctors are doing everything they can to get this disease under control.
Since Beth's pockets are only so deep - and Edith has no pockets at all - we're hoping our community will pitch in and help them in this scary, uncertain, and expensive time. Even after the hospital stays and blood transfusion(s), she will likely need to be on medication for a long time to manage this disease.
No contribution is too big or too small. As you all know, Beth is a hard-working small business owner, actively serving the Asheville community and working to grow her business into brick-and-mortar as we speak. Every penny counts!
Thank you thank you - from all of us over here on Team Edith. <3
