Khadra Baskin: Muslim Community Center Fund

Donation protected
As salamu alaikum (Peace be unto you),

I pray everyone reading this information on Khadra's GoFundMe page is doing well mentally, spiritually and physically.

As many of you may already know, Khadra was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2015. After receiving chemotherapy and radiation, her cancer went into remission. However, a short while later, Khadra's cancer returned and metastasized. We lost our beloved Mother, Sister, and Guardian to Cancer after a long hard fought battle on May 19, 2020.

She served for the Office of Equity and Diversity at the University of Tennessee for more than 20 years.  But we all knew her passion & talent was building and keeping communities together!

While it is a blessing to be able to help anyone in need, Khadra has been heavily involved in the Knoxville area community and Muslim community for almost 30 years. She has graciously volunteered in multiple organizations tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Time and time again, Khadra, has pushed herself and others to volunteer in food and homeless shelters, at local mosques, and community events year round.

Khadra was also a deeply spiritual and kind soul, who had dedicated herself to her religion. She read Islam's holy book constantly, the Quran, even teaching others how to read the book over Skype and in person, helping many people GLOBALLY. She involved herself with organizing Islamic classes for children, as well as spearheading interfaith outreach and connecting with Muslim converts. Khadra was also one of the driving forces responsible for founding and coordinating our local Maryville community mosque.

This money will go directly to something near and dear to Khadra's heart. A new Mosque for the Maryville Community. Specifically the children who will have a sense of community as they live as minorities.

What we are trying to achieve here is Sadaqah Jariyah  which means a continuous, flowing and ongoing charity. It is one of the most rewarding acts we can do in our lives as the benefits of giving this type of charity can be reaped in this lifetime and long after we have passed.

So, donating will help Khadra after her passing. This is giving back to someone who has already  given so much to others, while building for children and communities of the future.
