Support Dad's Stroke Recovery Journey - Joseph Stortz
Donation protected
What was suppose to be a nice long weekend up north with family and friends, turned into a scary situation. Joey unfortunately suffered an Ischemic Stroke Saturday morning. Emergency services were immediately called, which took just over 40 mins for an ambulance arrive, as we were far up in northern Wisconsin. Next, another 45 minutes in ambulance to the nearest hospital. We then had to drive there and wait for any kind of answers, which felt like an eternity. They immediately did a CAT scan with hopes that we caught it in time to administer special medicine to break up the clot quickly. We thought we caught it in time but unfortunately that was not the case. He suffered the stoke while he was sleeping overnight, about 6-7 hours prior to waking up. Next, we were notified that they would be taking him via flight for life to a Madison hospital, where they were better equipped to handle him in his condition. While that was happening we drove back 45 mins to the cabin, packed up everything, and drive 5 hours home to drop off his grandson with family, then drive another one and a half hours to Madison. While we were doing that, they performed an angiogram to try and clear a blockage in his Carotid Artery. Unfortunately it wasn't a success and was too big of a blockage. The next best course of action was blood thinners, which is helping dissolve that block as well as a piece of that block that had traveled into his brain. Unfortunately, there is some significant damage and he will have a long road of therapy to recovery! He's in good spirits and in the best care possible! I want to thank everyone who has prayed for us; it means the world to us. Any donation will go towards helping cover the cost of medical bills, day-to-day bills, transportation, hotel rooms, etc. Thank-you for taking the time to extend your prayers and help our family in this time of need.
