Hi, my name is Jesse Hendrix and I am raising money for Berto Carbonell, or as most of you know him, Uncle Berto.

The man is a gentleman and does a ton for his two boys. He was injured surfing by someone dropping in and then losing his board and the board hitting him in the back of the neck. His neck was broken in 4 places and he will be unable to work for 3 months at the very least. He does so much for the surf scene on Kaua'i, is an ambassador of Aloha and needs our help to provide for his boys.

I teach in Kapa'a and all the kids know and love him. He is always spreading joy and stoke.

He also wants to raise awareness about safety in the water and keep everyone healthy and stoked as the ocean becomes more crowded every year. Please help Uncle Berto!

Here are his words about the incident.

"Yesterday while surfing Hanalei a loose longboard hit me in the back of my head and broke my neck. I was helping an unko that had lost his board when it happened. The pain was indescribable. I thought I was done. I screamed in pain, held my neck with my left hand and paddled with my right arm. My whole life flashed in front of me and all I thought about was my Zboyz. I just kept going towards the beach, screaming for help n no one helped til I got to the shore. Luckily I knew a guy (I forget his name) carried me to the dry sand. I was lucky once again. People, please use a leash and stop hurting others in the lineup. From Pakalas to Hanalei, please think of others. The life you save may not be your own."
