Hi, my name is Byron, and I am Kam’s brother-in-law. Along with my sisters, Jillian and Jenine, I am starting this GoFundMe to support my sister Deanne and her family during an incredibly difficult time.

Kam passed away on December 23 after a courageous battle with stage 4 cancer, following his diagnosis in the spring of 2024. From the very beginning, Kam fought with extraordinary grit and determination. He faced each day with positivity, strength, and a smile that never seemed to fade, even in the hardest moments. His resilience and spirit were truly inspiring to everyone who knew him.

Kam leaves behind his loving wife, Deanne, and their two beautiful daughters, Willa and Ophelia, ages 4 and 6. He was a devoted husband and an incredible father, and his absence is deeply felt by all who loved him.

Anyone who knows Deanne knows she would never ask for help for herself. That is why we are asking on her behalf. The financial burden created by Kam’s medical treatment and funeral expenses is significant, and no family should have to carry that weight while grieving such a profound loss.

In the final months of Kam’s life, his immunotherapy treatment cost approximately $20,000, as it was not covered by Alberta Health Care or extended benefits. In addition, funeral and urn placement expenses are approximately $20,000. These were difficult but necessary cost... incurred in the hope of giving Kam every possible chance, and in creating a meaningful place for his children and loved ones to remember him.

Any support you choose to give will help ease some of the stress Deanne is facing and allow her to focus on caring for Willa and Ophelia as they navigate life without their dad. Should funds be raised beyond these immediate needs, they will be placed into the girls’ education funds and celebration of Kam's life in spring of 2026 (date will be announced when confirmed)
