Equipment needed for life changing diagnosis

*UPDATE* (10.01.22)
Happy New Year.
Thank you all for your overwhelming support.
I have now purchased a chair which has made a huge difference to my day to day life. I am now able to independently get in and out of a sitting position.
With your generous donations I am well on the way to getting my reclining bed.
I am truly touched by everybody’s donations and kind words and wish you all a happy and healthy new year.

As some of you may know, this year, after a period of investigation, my brother Jonathan was diagnosed with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). MSA is an incredibly rare neurological disorder that affects adult men and women. It is caused by degeneration or atrophy (shrinking) of nerve cells in several or multiple areas of the brain. Whilst it is not helpful to list the many symptoms that this disease brings -including the failure of bodily functions such as speech, movement, balance and blood pressure control - it is fair to say that his day-to-day way of life is going to change and continue to change dramatically over the next few years.
In order for his quality of life to remain manageable, Jonathan requires several pieces of equipment in order for him to do basic tasks.
- A rise and recline chair to enable him to rest but to be able to get up when there is no one around to help.
- A wheelchair as walking is very difficult and to eliminate risk of falls.
- A scooter for independence –as Jon loves his vehicles and getting out in the fresh air - we do think he could be nightmare on one of these! (and friends have promised to pimp it up!)
- Electric bed to lift the back and raise the legs to help getting in and out of bed, to aid comfort but most importantly to reduce hypertension.
Along the way, his needs will increase, but essentially these items will make a massive impact on his day-to-day life now.
People have kindly asked how they can help, in what feels like a helpless situation. We have seen how social media and community has had a powerful impact over the last couple of years - Together with Jon’s partner Jemma, I want to see if we can do the same for my brother.
I have opened this gofundme page to raise as much money as we can to help him. Any donation would be greatly appreciated.
