Join Our Efforts: Rebuilding Appalachia
Donation protected
Ever since Helene, I've been trying to figure out how best to offer my time and construction services to help the rebuilding efforts in Appalachia. As many of you know, after Katrina, I went on a service trip with St. John's Church. It's hard to fathom the level of destruction from a hurricane until you witness it. It was a very rewarding experience, and we definitely made an impact, but I left thinking how much more could have been accomplished with a skilled crew.
So, from March 23-30, I will be heading down to Appalachia for a week with the infamous and hardworking Jimmy and Jimmy - and Sean. We will be driving down with a trailer full of generators, tools, and supplies - generously supplied by two other A-team members - Bobby Webb and Jack the painter.
We are volunteering with Appalachian Service Project (ASP), a vetted organization that has been working in the area for decades. (Francie did a service trip with ASP ten years ago). ASP is committed to rapidly repairing or replacing at least 200 homes for families impacted by Helene.
I'm doing this GoFundMe because although ASP provides most building supplies, we are on the hook for transportation, accommodations, meals, and additional stock and tool rentals we deem necessary to expedite construction. Any additional funds left over will be donated to ASP and/or directly to the affected families in the form of gift cards.
Thanks for considering. Any amount greatly appreciated! Please forward to anyone you think might be interested in supporting the effort.
