NW Floods: Jim & Lynda need a hand

Donation protected
The retired Forth vet, Jim Reilly, and his wife Lynda, lost a great deal in the Forth River flood on June 6, 2016.

At home they lost family heirlooms, photos, vintage books, clothes, furniture, whitegoods, tools and the whole garden. On the farm, the fences and irrigation equipment were wrecked and are not insurable.  All of this happened while he was recuperating from back surgery and waiting for knee surgery.

Jim is not the kind of person to ask for help, even when he really needs it. He set up his vet business in Forth 30 years ago, and since then he has worked his heart out for the community seven days a week, all hours. So many people have a story of a time when Jim has helped them out during a difficult time - always going the extra mile with help and advice about their animals.

Insurance will help with some of the house damage, but it will fall well short. The challenge now is to pay for fencing materials, which are not covered.

If they can qualify for Blaze Aid, the Forth Valley Lions Club will help out with labour.  We still don't know the total cost , but it's likely to be in excess of $15,000. The donated money will be managed by the Lions Club, and any left over will be theirs to reallocate.

It's been humbling for Lynda & Jim to have so many kind people come forward to pitch in and help the house clean up.

It's not easy to ask for money, but we're asking you to please donate whatever you can. Even just a few dollars will help pay the bills, and give them some much needed moral support.

Thank you,
David Reilly (on behalf of Jim's family & friends)
