Jerome Sinclair's Sponsored Skydive

Donation protected

Jerome Sinclair was born and raised in Birmingham, a former Liverpool FC and Watford FC professional football player who currently holds the record for being the youngest ever player to appear for Liverpool FC. He shares a common interest with Back to Basics (reg. charity no. 1176426) www.backtobasics.org.uk to help the community in terms of organic food production, food poverty, pollution and gaining core skills and as a result he has chosen to support the charity with a sponsored sky dive to raise funds.

Being raised in inner city Birmingham and owning a business in this area has enabled Jerome to see food poverty first hand and the effects that the current cost of living crisis is having on people living in these areas of the UK. Being in a privileged position he feels that it is important to use his platform to help deal with the effects and difficulties that people are suffering with from such issues. This is the beginning for Jerome in what he sees as an ongoing philanthropic journey which will hopefully inspire others in similar positions to help drive change in their respective communities.

Back to Basics has both short and long term goals in the creation of this fundraiser:

In the short term, Back to Basics will continue to distribute food to the homeless regularly; providing meals to families in need via donations to food banks, coffee mornings, giveaways and further donations to struggling families during the Cost of Living Crisis. We believe in giving back to those in need when they need it the most and the Cost of Living Crisis has drastically highlighted to us the extent to which this project is needed. Around 11 million people are currently living in food poverty and insecurity and we believe if this is to change, the change needs to start now, however the change also needs to be sustainable.

This is why we also have long term goals in creating this fundraiser. Alongside the continuous support we provide to those in need, we will use the funds raised to purchase land for a facility which will allow Back to Basics to grow and distribute organic foods to those in need on a larger scale. This facility will act as a base for Back to Basic’s charity operations: a home. Further, this will provide Back to Basics with a hub to run workshops from, currently these are focused mainly on teaching those in need, however anybody who wants to learn can learn how to grow organic food in a safe, sustainable and responsible manner. Back to basics believes everyone should have a local food source and access to practical, hands-on education. Therefore through workshops, family events, school trips and programs for care home residents, Back to Basics will continue to create spaces for learning and activity that cover a range of techniques to empower individuals to cultivate their own food and nurture the Earth.

Together we can create the change.

Together we can rediscover the joys of going Back to Basics.
