Jennifer’s Cancer Journey

Hello and thank you for taking time to consider this fundraising request. My name is Brian. My sister (Jennifer) and I are all that is left from our immediate family. We lost our father and brother to Cancer and our mother was a stroke/heart attack victim. Jennifer is a single parent, working full-time as a Medical Office Manager for a private practice physician for 6 years but has no insurance/medical benefits. She currently resides in Ohio, 8 hours away from the rest of our family, with minimal physical support means. Due to her financial and lack of insurance situation, she’s unable to move back home to Virginia where they would have a little more physical support. Her only child, Imani, 13 years old, is diagnosed with Autism spectrum disorder with intellectual disabilities, ADHD, ODD, general anxiety disorder and a communication deficit. She is his sole caregiver, advocate and provider. Jennifer was diagnosed in June with non small cell lung cancer in the right lower lobe. Due to the location of the cancer, the doctors were planning to remove her right lower lobe. However, due to the location and early diagnosis of her cancer, they believe the best treatment for her at this time, to become cancer free with the least amount of residual, life altering affects, would be to have Cyberknife Radiation therapy. The first course of her treatment plan, pulmonary rehab therapy, has helped her lungs/body to become more efficient at utilizing oxygen. She will have another CT and MRI on 10/1/19 and meet with the radiation oncologist on 10/3/19 to discuss and plan her treatment regimen. She will be out of work intermittently, for approximately 2 months for treatment. Post therapy she may have to complete another round of 6-8 weeks of pulmonary rehabilitation. Donations will be used towards medical bills/expenses, rent/utilities/bills/groceries and any expenses/care needs for her son, Imani, while out of work and during recovery.
