Let me tell you about Jaylen. Jaylen is an charismatic, motivated, hard working young man and a loving father. He prides himself on being physically fit and living a healthy, active lifestyle. Jaylen is the oldest of 3 children. He values time spent with his family. Jaylen is always working to better himself to become a successful business man that he aspires to be. Jaylen was working towards his goal to be an entrepreneur and provide for himself and others.

Jaylen was working hard, like any other day. He was working to pay his bills and provide for his young family. Unfortunately, what started as a normal day as an Amazon driver, quickly redefined his life forever. Jaylen's life was altered when he was shot in the back after an altercation over a handicap parking space in the Target parking lot on March 5, 2019.

The ideas, goals and aspirations that he was working towards were ripped away from him, leaving him to forge a new life, much different from the one he had planned. Jaylen now remains hospitalized due to a gun shot wound, resulting in a T8 spinal cord injury. At this time, Jaylen has no feeling from his abdomen through to his lower extremities. Because his spine was severed at this level, it is unlikely that Jaylen will be able to regain the motor and sensory functions to allow him to walk or run to chase after his little boy. Jaylen and his team of doctors are not yet certain on what exactly Jaylen's physical limitations will be.

Due to not having health insurance, we are raising money on Jaylen's behalf to cover the exorbitant costs of medical treatment. This treatment will include procedures and months of rehabilitation. In addition, this money will be beneficial for Jaylen as he works through his recovery process and adapts to his new way of life.

Any contributions made will be pivotal to Jaylen's recovery. Please donate and share this GoFundMe account to show your support.

Good evening. I apologize for a delayed update on Jaylen's recovery. As you can all imagine, Jaylen is working through a lot of tough emotional and physical obstacles at this time.
Jaylen is now in a rehabilitation facility, working on his strength. As he still has very limited feeling in his lower extremities, he has been working really hard on navigating a wheel chair, as this will be his way to get around independently. Jaylen has been working daily on using a wheel chair efficiently. He is also focusing on transferring himself from his wheelchair to his bed, in which he is able to complete this independently about 65% of the time.
Jaylen is able to use his arms but is restricted due to his back brace. He is trying to remain as active as he can, just as before this tragedy occurred.
Emotionally, Jaylen is working through some life changing issues, most especially worrying about living arrangements as his home nor his mother's home are wheelchair accessible. His family asks that you continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he relies on God's love for him to keep his positivity and strength. Jaylen is very appreciative of the support and kindness of everyone who has donated, shared this GoFundMe page and prayed for him.

Good evening donors,

GoFundMe wanted me to reach out to you all and clarify who I am (as the creator of this GoFundMe) and how I am helping Jaylen's family through this process.
Regina (Jaylen's Mother) and I are close friends. Regina and her 3 children are an extension of my family and vise versa. I chose to create this GoFundMe page because I was following the comments and threads via social media when the news first came out that a young man was shot in the Target parking lot.
I quickly realized that the St. Louis area was pouring out their support towards Jaylen and his family. When Regina notified me that Jaylen did not have health insurance, I knew that creating a GoFundMe campaign could help him in his long road to recovery.
As far as the use for the funds go, it is unclear on where those funds will be used first, as this devastating news is still being digested by the Walker family. We can only hope and pray that the community will continue to show their support and generous hearts by donating and sharing this campaign across all social media platforms.
When those funds are withdrawn from the GoFundMe, I will notify those who have shown support via GoFundMe updates with specific plans. As mentioned before, no plans have been made at this time.
Please continue to send your thoughts and prayers their way!
