On Friday, August 17th, my daughter Jasmin was seriously injured in a hit-and-run near Hwy 50/Colonial just outside Christmas, Florida. She was on her way to Cocoa Beach with a friend and had a job interview later that morning. She had pulled over and stepped out of the vehicle, and the next thing she remembers is waking up in the hospital screaming.

The injuries Jasmin suffered were devastating. Her left leg was damaged beyond surgical repair, and she lost it above the knee. She also suffered severe fractures to her left thumb and hand that required plates and screws, and she had to undergo emergency abdominal surgery, leaving dozens of staples along her abdomen. In a single moment, her life changed forever.

Jasmin had been working hard to build stability and move toward her goals. She was in the middle of transitioning between jobs when this happened, and because of that, she has no health insurance. Now she is facing overwhelming medical bills along with the many other expenses that come with a life-altering injury.

All funds raised will go directly toward Jasmin’s medical bills, living expenses, physical and emotional rehabilitation, and a prosthetic limb. No one stopped after the hit-and-run, and no one has been held accountable for what happened to her. That makes this even harder, but I do not want the lack of accountability to stand in the way of Jasmin’s future.
