James Stampone Memorial Scholarship Fund
Donation protected
This is a scholarship fund in memory of James Stampone. He passed away suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack on Sept. 19, 2018, just one week shy of his 73rd birthday. He left behind a legacy that will ripple out far and wide for a very long time to come.
Jim single-handedly created the Fine Arts program at Falmouth High School in Maine. While teaching drawing, painting, Art History, sculpture, pottery, and jewelry, he was also creating a safe haven for many struggling teens for whom he became a mentor and, for some, a life-long friend. Over a 35-year career at that one school, "Stampy", as he was affectionately known, was loved by most and respected by all, students, faculty and staff alike.
This scholarship fund is raising money for an annual award to a Falmouth High School senior planning to attend Art School. Each year our hope is to be able to award a one-time $500 scholarship to go towards supplies and fees. The FHS art department along with the school administration will select a student through an application process. My goal is to help create a sustainable scholarship that can last far into the future.
Jim was a dear friend of mine. I was the Band Director at FHS for 17 years and Jim played an important role while I was there before he retired. We laughed a lot over the years and enjoyed many concerts together. I saw first hand the passion he had for teaching, his love of art and music, his amazing ability to fix anything, and how deeply he cared for the students at FHS. He was a great teacher and friend. This scholarship is my small way of honoring his legacy.
