Jake Suttling’s road to recovery

Donation protected
Hello my name is Gen Acton and I am raising funds for my son Jake Suttling. At 10:35am on May 14th I received a message that no mother ever wants to receive, “ Was your son coming to see you in Lumby? He’s been in an accident “.

My precious son, Jake Suttling, was riding his motorcycle from Vernon to Lumby to spend Mother’s Day with me when he was struck down by a pick up truck who turned into his lane, t-boning him, on Hwy 6 at the School Rd intersection in Lavington. I will be forever grateful to all of the first responders and caring citizens who stopped to help my son that day.

Having sustained extensive critical injuries, Jake was airlifted to KGH, where he has a team of trauma surgeons who have been working hard to save his legs. So far, he has undergone 11 hours of complex surgeries on his lower body; pelvis, hips, knees, femur, bilateral lower legs, both wrists are fractured as well as internal injuries. He also needs extensive dental repairs.

This is going to be a long and onerous journey to recovery, and Jake's life will never be the same. He will need to relocate from his home following his hospital stay to a wheelchair accessible home that will allow for the special equipment required for his rehabiliation.

For those of you who don't know Jake, he is a Tile Setter by trade, so this accident is detrimental to his career (at least for the forseable future). While there are many losses here, we are thankful to still have Jake with us. If not for the conscientious of his personal safety with protective clothing it could have been a very different story. The strength, resilience and compassion for the driver who hit him that he has shown already is truly remarkable.

Many people have been reaching out asking how they can help. With ICBC‘S change in policy there is no longer financial supports for pain and suffering. This change will impact Jake's situation significantly.

If you are looking for a way to support Jake’s recovery, here are a few options:

1. SHARE THE ROAD!! BE ALERT AND AWARE OF MOTORBIKES
2 . Spare what you can on this Go Fund Me page
3. An account has been set up at Chasers and Interior Bottle Depot under Jake Suttling
4. Stay tuned for a September fundraiser; details to follow

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FROM JAKE SUTTLING AND HIS FAMILY
