Tragic loss of Jaafar Shbeb, age 10

Donation protected
On Monday, March 28, 2016, Jaafar Shbeb, a young 10 years old, was walking south on Northeast 162nd Avenue with his sister and a friend when his group stopped in the middle of Burnside Boulevard on the crosswalk portion of a MAX lightrail platform, when he inadvertently stepped onto oncoming traffic on the south side of Burnside.  He was immediately struck by a car and lost his life as a result .

Jaafar has two younger sisters and a single Mother who needs financial assistance to help them through this unimaginable loss and to pay for his funeral expenses.  As refugees from Iraq, their local resources are extremely limited and support from the community, whether large or small, will make all of the difference to get through this.  We are trying to raise money as quickly as possible to ensure she has the funds to care for her family and handle funeral expenses with her limited resources.

Jaafar attended Glanfair Elementary School and counselors will be at multiple schools to help Shbeb's friends and classmates process the tragedy.

Please help us by donating whatever you can for this family.

This message is sincerely written from Jaafar's Mother's workplace.  We are doing everything we can for her and her family and hope you are able to help.

Sincerely,
The Crowne Plaza Hotel Portland Downtown Team
