Hi, my name is Candace and I was once homeless in Saskatoon at 13 years old and lived on the streets till I was 15 when I found out I could put myself into foster care. I spent cold winter nights under the staircase of apartment buildings to stay warm and it kept me out of view by people walking by at the lowest staircase. By the grace of God, I'm still alive. God put it on my heart many years ago to start a non-profit for to help people that are homeless and at risk of homelessness and I am finally doing it. I need your help though. This is a big task and it will take a lot of funds to start. The plan is to start a community for homeless people on an acreage a decent distance outside of Saskatoon (so they will have to think about how long the walk is, if they want to come back to the city). I know a lot of people do not want homeless people on our streets for various reasons. I don't because I know what it's like. There are many factors that keep people on the streets, such as they've lived on the street their whole life and they don't have ID or know how to get ID, they don't know how to read (you'd be surprised how many), they are addicted to drugs or alcohol and much more.

Our mission is to eventually eliminate homelessness from Saskatoon and area and provide our business plan to the world. Our plan is to offer programs to the homeless and at risk of homelessness that will eventually help reintegrate them back into our society and give them their dignity back by offering them jobs, training, and the life skills they need to be successful in our society.

The programs we plan to offer are:

1. Discipleship Training Centre
This program will offer people the hope we all need in Jesus Christ. It will train and teach them the way to battle for things in prayer instead of the ways of the world (litigation, divorce, etc.). It will also teach them how to be a true followers of Jesus Christ through reading the word of God and following through in action and in deed.

2. Food and Homemaking Centre
This program will allow the participants to be involved in many areas of food preparation including: planting seeds, watering, fertilizing, harvesting, washing, selling food, cooking, canning, baking, sewing, and more. There will also be a program within this program to help feed the orphan and the widow and offer cooked meals for the elderly and disabled.

3. Housing Program
There will be a variety of programs within this program including, but not limited to: flipping houses with a job training component, rent to own program, housing first program with a rent subsidy component, and community housing program which gives them an opportunity to be part of a community built strictly for the homeless and at risk of homelessness right on location that gives access to all of the programs. Within this program will also be a program within this program to help the orphan and the widow that has a low income with any housing repairs needed.

4. Family Program
For any couples, mothers and children, fathers and children, or anyone that is in a family of any sort; this program will be a place where they can grow and train up to be the family God preplanned. Like the discipleship program, this will be geared on setting families on the right track by leading them into what God intended for families, marriages and relationship.

5. Call Centre
This will be a 24/7 call centre for anyone facing homelessness or is currently homeless.

6. Addictions Program
This program will offer participants the ability to battle additions the Biblical way and that is through a surrendered life to God, to die to the flesh and give it to Him. There will be trained professional help available specific to this area. There will be counselling available and one on one help to guide them and keep them away from what is keeping them from being after God’s desires for our life; which is to love and be loved.

7. Finance Program
There will be many components in this program including: household budgeting, grants program for participants that are entrepreneurs to start their own business, budgeting for a business, learning how to file their personal taxes, etc.

8. Job Skills Program
This program will be there to help people type their resumes, give them the knowledge and skills to make their own resume stand out and be a motivating place to guide them how to job hunt in today’s world. Job skills can be developed within the housing program, food program and clothing program. Within this program will be help for anything the participants may need to get a job, such as identification, a driver’s license, glasses, etc.

9. Clothing Depot
This program will be a second hand store that is operated to help support programs and will also help cloth participants for free, if they are in need.

10. Hygene
This program is intended to help those that need anything like haircuts, facials, foot care, hand care, etc. Some homeless have immediate needs such as sores on their feet, lice, skin infections, etc. This program will address these types of needs and more, if necesary. It is also for participants that want to know more about taking care of their personal hygene.

  • Right now, there is no such program in Saskatchewan. Our first goal is to raise enough money to get a piece of land that we can start our programs. We hope to get property with existing structures so we can utilize what is already there. The faster we get the funds, the faster we can get people off of these cold streets. People have died in the winter months freezing to death. That saddens me and I'd love to get this thing started before winter hits. We've been blessed the last few years with warmer weather till January; thank the Lord Jesus for that! If you'd like to help us get up and running with donations or your time, please contact us through Facebook, our website, or see us in person at our next event (below are the links). No donation or volunteer position is too small. Anything will help. Please consider donating to our cause by clicking the "donate now" button on our gofundme page.
