Interfaith Rotating Winter Shelter
Donation protected
The Interfaith Rotating Winter Shelter of Davis (IRWS) is a community based-effort enabling member congregations to provide cold-weather shelter and hospitality on a rotating basis to persons who are homeless in the Davis community.
The spirit of the program is to provide a bridge between those with shelter and those without. We want to provide shelter in the physical, emotional and spiritual sense of the word. To do so, we aim to serve, not to help nor fix. Helping implies that we put ourselves above the person receiving the help, and fixing implies the other person is broken. Instead, we strive to see the wholeness in the other person, to trust and to collaborate with that wholeness.
Every year, we rely on funding from grants and from our generous donors, to provide our guests with food, drink, health and hygiene supplies, and to cover administrative costs of setting up shelters at different host sites around Davis. In continuing to improve our services, this year, IRWS is hiring Overnight Supervisors to facilitate the overnight stays at each host site and to ensure that we meet fire safety code requirements. The Overnight Supervisors will train and oversee all overnight volunteers, and the consistency will benefit the guests, volunteers, and the host sites.
We ask for your support to raise $20,500, to prepare us for the 2017-2018 season. Thank you for your compassion and commitment to serving our collective community.
Please note that the donations are directed by GoFundMe to Alex Bolagner, IRWS's Treasurer, but IRWS is the sole beneficiary of all proceeds received.
