In Memory of Jordan Grant

In memory of Jordan Grant we would like to save other families from suffering this needless tragedy.

Our 18 year old son and Cal Poly freshman, Jordan Grant, died needlessly on October 7, 2018 at the unsafe El Campo crossing of Highway 101 south of Arroyo Grande in California. Police said a BMW made an unsafe left turn from the El Campo stop sign directly into Jordan's southbound path on 101.  Many locals have shared with us that they do not allow their own family members to use this crossing due to the extreme danger. This crossing, with only a stop sign on El Campo, has severe obstructions of lines of sight with curves in both directions, limiting visibility of oncoming traffic. At peak traffic volumes on 101, safe openings for vehicles to cross 101 are limited and cars on El Campo stack up waiting to hurl themselves dangerously across multiple lanes of high speed freeway traffic. It is only a matter of time before another family's loved one is needlessly killed in this death trap.

We will be incurring engineering and legal expenses to eliminate the death trap at the El Campo and Highway 101 crossing. We expect to also recruit a team of Cal Poly students to work on this problem and address statewide legislation to avoid such fatal lapses in highway safety along all of 101.

If you have had an accident at this El Campo crossing please share your experience in the comments below with contact information (also email [email redacted]).
