IF YOU CAN RUN, YOU CAN RUN!

Hi friends!

I am Giancarlo Milazzo. On April 15th, I will be running in the Boston Marathon on behalf of You Can Play.

I'm raising money to help You Can Play (YCP) grow their reach, as they work to ensure the safety and inclusion for all who love to participate in sports - athletes, fans, parents, coaches, admins... EVERYONE! Especially those from the LGBTQ+ community.

YCP provides inclusivity and allyship education, training, resources and support to sports organizations of all sizes and at all levels. Their professional and national sport organization partners, like the NHL, PGA, US Soccer, Canadian Olympic Committee, and many others, help to amplify their focus on inclusion in sports, and creating safe and welcoming cultures of belonging for all.

The mission and work that YCP does in the sports world is so important and dear to me. I played semi-professional basketball in Italy until I was 21 years old, and have a passion for running. I have been participating in Full/Half/10K races for the past 2 years. My last marathon was in Milan in 2023 - I ran it in 3 hours and 45 minutes!

However, playing sports and being active all my life, especially as a youth, it has been difficult to come out about my sexuality for fear of being bullied, especially because I come from a small town in Sicily (Italy) and a closed minded community. Running for You Can Play means that I can release all of my fears and insecurities I have had all my life.
